  • Hello Stephen Foster Families,

    I hope I find you in good health and safe at home with your loved ones. I have to say that I miss you all very much. I miss dismissal time when I get to say goodbye to students and parents. I hope we get to see each other very soon.
    In the meantime we are working hard to continue the learning for our students.

    As you are aware, the Department of Public Health has issued a Safer at Home order through April 19, 2020. For this reason, BUSD will be extending our closure until April 19, 2020. This date may change as we receive new information from the LA Department of Public Health.

    This week, teachers have been organizing resources and identifying quality online resources for them to use for distance learning.

    Teachers have been reaching out to you to determine the best way for teachers to interact with students and parents to provide support for Enrichment opportunity for the upcoming weeks. Please look for their emails, ClassDojo, Remind or phone calls. Please take the time to respond to your student's teacher if you have not done so.

    These enrichment activities for students will be an opportunity for students to explore new ways of learning. Every instruction will look different for our teachers and students. The work will not be graded and will not be mandatory for students to complete, however, we highly encourage that they participate.
    Based on your teacher's plan for enrichment, we will be distributing any materials that they have put together. Not all teachers will be asking you to pick up materials, some are doing everything online through a technology platform.
    You will be receiving a message from your teachers letting you know if you need to pick up any materials from us. Please make sure you look out for their messages.

    I will be distributing materials on Friday, March 27th from 2-4 pm.
    Because we have to follow the order of social distancing we will have a set schedule for grade levels. We will set out tables out front by the office. If there is a line please stand 6ft. away from the person in front of you. If you are sick, please do not come to pick up materials, you may send someone for you to pick up your materials.

    1-1:45 Kinder and 6th grade
    1:45-2:30 1st grade and 5th grade
    2:30-3:15 3rd grade and 4th grade
    3:15-4:00 2nd grade

    If for any reason you cannot make your designated time please let your teacher know. We will try and accommodate as best as possible. And remember not all grades or teachers will have you come to pick up materials. They will inform you through their messages.

    This is a learning process for all of us, let's work together.

    I am truly grateful for our teachers, they have been working hard to connect with your children. I know some have already had some type of virtual connection with them, which I'm sure the children were super excited. 

    Wishing you all the best and I am sending a virtual hello with a smile to every single student. Please let them know that I miss them very much.

    Hello Stephen Foster Families,

    Given the closure of our district due to the COVID-19 we are also canceling some of our school and PTA events to ensure our students' and community's safety and well being.

    6th grade Apple bee's fundraiser
    Fun Run fundraiser: PTA will be posting a read-a-thon activity on the website.
    Book Fair on school grounds, however you can still order online until March 20th.
    GATE Band Concert
    Gate field trip to Catalina.
    All scheduled field trips in the month of March.

  • Staying Healthy during cold and flu season
     
    Cold and flu
     
    • Stay home when you are sick. You need to be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before returning to school. 
    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Help young children do the same. 
    • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
     • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
     • Limit close contact, like kissing and sharing cups or utensils, with people who are sick.
     • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. 
    • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hands). 
     
    We want to make sure we keep our kiddos stay healthy and strong during the flu season.
