Principal's Update

As we begin 2018, I am proud to say that the Jefferson staff remains focused on meeting the individual needs of each and every student here on campus. Not only are we continuing to offer Reading Club support for students in grades K-3 who need phonics and fluency assistance, but we also have a Math Club, which provides strategic math support to students in grades K-6. In addition to these intervention groups, Jefferson has begun the iLit Program, which gives intensive small group support to struggling readers and English Learners in grades 4-6. This new intervention class combines research-based strategies with technology to help improve the reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills of those who attend. We are also excited to announce that English Learners will once again be offered before-school tutoring to help improve their verbal and written language skills. Discussions For Learning, the tutoring program used, has been requested by many parents in the past due to its terrific results, and in response to this demand, tutoring has been increased to reach students in grades 2-6! In addition, two after-school classes are now being offered each week to provide enrichment opportunities for GATE students in our school and across the district. These “Mad Science” classes will not only be engaging for students, but will hopefully encourage a love of science now and in the future. And finally, students in all grades benefit from small group and individual counseling provided by our school’s Counselor and Guidance Technician. These individuals work with students daily to help them make positive choices and to express themselves in appropriate ways. They also assist families in getting outside assistance when necessary. Here at Jefferson, we believe that going above and beyond to provide all students with the individual resources they need will instill in them the confidence and skills necessary to always achieve a Standard of Excellence, Nothing Less!
