Bellflower Unified Bond Measure

Many of the schools within the Bellflower Unified School District date back over 70 years, having been built in the mid-20th century. While these historic buildings have fostered countless educational experiences, they now face significant challenges in meeting modern safety standards, educational needs, and technological advancements. The aging infrastructure not only impacts the safety and comfort of our students and staff but also limits the types of programs and learning opportunities available to our students.

To address these needs, the Bellflower Unified School District Board of Education has voted to place a school facilities improvement bond measure on the November 3, 2026 General Election ballot. This proposed $135 million general obligation bond is designed to provide financing to improve our learning environments.

Goals of the Proposed Measure

The bond measure will provide funding for:

  • School Safety: Enhancing security systems, fencing, lighting, and emergency communication systems.
  • Classroom Repairs: Upgrading deteriorating roofs, restrooms, plumbing, HVAC systems, and other facilities.
  • Technology Upgrades: Equipping classrooms with modern technology.
  • Career Education Facilities: Creating and updating spaces for vocational and career education to prepare students for future careers.
  • Long-term Improvements: Supporting overall enhancements as identified in the District’s Facilities Master Plan.

Financial Impact

The estimated cost for property owners is $49 per $100,000 of assessed property value while bonds are outstanding.

Commitment to Accountability

To ensure transparency, the proposed measure includes:

  • An independent citizens' oversight committee
  • Annual audits and public reporting
  • Limitations ensuring that funds are used solely for voter-approved projects, and not for salaries or operating expenses.

Registered voters within the Bellflower Unified School District will have the opportunity to decide on this measure in November. To pass, the measure requires at least 55% approval from voters, as mandated by Proposition 39, Article XVIII A(1)(b)(3) of the California Constitution.

Bellflower Unified School District Unveils New Facilities Master Plan 

The Bellflower Unified School District has announced the development of its 2026 Facilities Master Plan, aiming to create safe, modern, and student-centered facilities throughout the district. This long-range roadmap outlines priority investments to enhance safety and classroom environments, support spaces for students, infrastructure, and community-serving school facilities.

Spanning from 2026 to 2036, the Facilities Master Plan identifies the district's needs and recommended improvements over the next decade. The plan focuses on school safety upgrades, classroom modernization, restroom improvements, HVAC enhancements, and indoor air quality upgrades. Additionally, it emphasizes technology infrastructure improvements and accessibility enhancements.

The plan also addresses the need for athletic and performing arts facilities, as well as outdoor shade and gathering areas that support college, career, and student wellness programs. This comprehensive approach reflects the district's commitment to fostering a safe and enriching learning environment for current and future students.
