President's Message
Dear Bellflower Unified School District Community,
I am humbled by the great honor I have to address you as your Board President. I am deeply grateful to my fellow board members for trusting me with this pivotol role, and I am looking forward to continuing the collaborative work that our board persevered so tirelessly to institute together. To achieve the success that we desrire for our district, knowing that such aspirations require: teamwork, dedication, and a shared vision for the future, three essential qualities that we are anchored to promoting.
Bellflower Unified School District doesn’t just hold a special place in my heart and it isn’t just a school district—essentially it is my heart because it IS my home. My roots here run deep: my mother, my daughter, and I are all proud graduates of Bellflower High School. I had the privilege of attending Ernie Pyle Elementary. My mother dedicated over 20 years of service to the district as a CSEA employee.
This community has shaped my life in both subtle and overt ways, too countless even to recall and because of that it is now my mission to ensure that every student, trailing behind me, feels the same sense of belonging and is afforded the same opportunities that I enjoyed, through my experiences growing up here.
Likely the most critical decision that will be made during the tenure of my board presidency will be the hiring of the districts next superintendent. As such, my primary goal is to lead the process of searching for and finding the next highly qualified BUSD educational leader who can demonstrate their capacity for working in partnership with the board to strategicly align the plans with our district’s mission and our shared vision. We as a board value collaboration, transparency, and the success of every student and our next superintendent will need to as well.
Listening to our students, families, staff, and community partners remains at the forefront of our focus. By fostering open dialogue and strengthening our relationships with unions and community organizations, we can ensure that every voice is heard and every common interest partner feels valued. I believe effective deliberation and decision-making are only possible through working together as a unified team, with each of us being one integral and necessary piece of the puzzle.
Cultivating a positive culture and climate across our district is equally important and should drive how we treat one another—the respect, kindness, and support we show—matters deeply. Fostering a sense of family within our community, where every student, teacher, and staff member feels connected and supported is my goal. Relationships are the cornerstone of the strong, inclusive, and thriving district we aspire to become and will be.
Your trust and partnership enable us to ensure that our students have the tools and opportunities they need to envision their futures, thus empowering them to achieve their own dreams.
It is with a profound sense of pride, that I step into this valuable role of board leadership with a clear intent of working closely with all of you to make Bellflower Unified School District a place where every student is safe, valued and thriving.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve the community that raised me, prepared me for my future in education and allowed me to now help prime our students for their futures. This is exactly why I call this place home and all of you my extended family.
With gratitude and determination,
Your Bellflower Unified School District Board of Education President,
Amie Stewart
