Esther Lindstrom Elementary provides a variety of opportunities for gifted and talented students. Our GATE facilitator plans and organizes enrichment opportunities for our students and is in charge of the identification and annual GATE testing process. This Year's GATE Opportunities:Sci-Con- classes after school will begin in March. There will be three 1 hour classes to introduce 3-6th grade students to Sci-Con, help organize and present, and discuss availability of supplies. Upcoming dates and details to follow.Sci-Con will be held Thursday, April 25 form 5-7Food trucks 5-6pmStudent presentations 5:30-6:30pmWrap up and game show 6:40-7pmOther Upcoming events/opportunities:Spring district classes (3-6th grade students) March 18 - May 3Parents of registered students will be notified.Mrs. Nishimuta will be offering an art class to 5/6th graders. Look for the flyer.Catalina Trip May 17-19Students should already be signed up and contacted by Mr. Savage about class dates.GATE students interested in marine biology and island ecology have an opportunity each year to attend the Catalina Island Marine Institute trip. Students and chaperoning teachers launch from Long Beach on a Friday traveling by boat to Catalina, landing in Toyon Bay for a three day outdoor science experience returning home on Sunday afternoon. While in Toyon Bay, students participate in hands-on learning activities as well as have an opportunity to snorkel in search of sea life.For additional information about Lindstrom's GATE program, please contact the school office at 562-804-6525.
