Williams Case

In 2000, a class action case was filed on the behalf of San Francisco County students.  It was claimed that the State of California and state education agencies failed to provide public school students with equal access to instructional materials, safe school facilities, and qualified teachers.  The case was settled in 2004 in favor of the students on behalf of whom the case was filed.  This has resulted in the state allocating additional funding for standards-aligned instructional materials for qualifying schools.  To learn more about the case, visit the California Department of Education website.
