Amie Stewart - School Board Vice President
Amie Stewart was born, raised, and currently resides in Bellflower, CA. Amie attended Ernie Pyle Elementary and graduated from Bellflower High School in 1991. She then attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on a softball scholarship, graduating with a Bachelor of Science - Kinesiology in 1996.
Family is the most important focus in Amie's life. She is the only child of Michael and Priscilla Stewart. Her parents were married for 52 years until August 2021, when her mother passed away at the age of 70.
Priscilla was a Bellflower High School graduate and a BUSD employee for many years working as a special education aide before becoming an elementary teacher. Her father still resides in Bellflower and is retired. She credits her mom for her love of education and inspiring her to help others.
Amie has one daughter, Taylor, who is also a Bellflower High School graduate. Taylor earned an athletic scholarship to play softball at San Diego State and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts - Journalism and Media marketing in 2018.
While at UNLV, Amie had an outstanding athletic career and was inducted into the UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame in 2012, following her 1995 team's induction in 2008. In 2014, she was inducted into the Bellflower High School Hall of Fame, and you can find her photo on the Wall of Fame in the main office.
After college, Amie played in the US Olympic Festival for TEAM USA and played two years of professional softball for the Durham Dragons in Durham, North Carolina. She then started a non-profit organization, Amie Stewart's California Rebels, coaching and mentoring young female student athletes and helping them achieve their dreams of going to college. She coached numerous high school teams, coached one year at UC Riverside, and currently coaches her Zamboni Middle School volleyball and wrestling teams.
After her softball career ended, she became a substitute teacher, a long-term substitute teacher, and began her career in Paramount Unified School District from 2000 until now. In 2004, she obtained a Masters in Education and multiple subject teaching credential. Amie taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade pre-algebra, algebra, and science for ten years and is currently a physical education teacher.
Amie is very involved in TAP, the Teachers Association of Paramount. She has been a site rep for numerous years, served two years as the secretary, and is currently the Vice President of Governance.
Amie is humbled and excited to serve the community that raised and prepared her for her future in education. Her goals are always to make student-focused, data-driven decisions; collaborate with our executive cabinet, labor unions and educational partners; and to prepare our students for careers or college.
