BUSD News - Superintendent’s Update - August 16, 2021
We are happy to see students back to full day in-person instruction. As we reflect on the first two days and with the surge of cases due to the Delta variant, we are making modifications. In order to make close contact tracing more accurate, students will be assigned a seat through the use of a seating chart.
You are a “close contact” if you were exposed to someone who tested positive for COVID-19 while they were infectious if:
- You were within 6 feet of someone with COVID-19 for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period.
- You had unprotected contact with body fluids and/or secretions from someone with COVID-19. For example, you were coughed or sneezed on, you shared a drinking cup or eating utensils, you kissed, or you provided care to them without wearing the right protective equipment.
We are also instructing all our teachers to provide whole group instruction and maintain 6 feet of distance when possible. If they need to come in close contact with a student, they limit it to no more than 15 minutes during the school day. By making these adjustments, we can minimize the number of students needing to quarantine when a positive case is identified. Once cases improve, we will adjust our practice.
PLEASE do not send your child to school if they are feeling any type of symptom. Call the office to inform them that your child is absent due to symptoms and have them tested. Do not send them to school while waiting for the results. If a child shows any sign of symptoms while at school they will be sent to the health office and you will be called to pick them up. It has always been important not to send kids to school if they are feeling ill and now more than ever we ask for your support. COVID-19 symptoms can be mild, a slight cough, to severe, so if you are even a little sick, please stay home and get tested.
Once again thank you for your flexibility and partnership.
