Student Spotlight
Girls Track and Field - Individual Champion - Junior, Chelsea Aninyei
- CIF Champion - Triple Jump
- CIF Champion - High Jump
- 3rd Place - Long Jump
Mayfair High School junior, Chelsea Aninyei won two CIF championships during CIF Southern Section finals in the Triple Jump and High Jump, and also won a third place medal in the Long Jump. Chelsea’s championship journey this year began in the Suburban League Finals at Ron Yary Stadium before advancing to the CIF Southern Section prelims and finals. To start her CIF Division 3 Finals day, Chelsea set a school record for the Long Jump at 17 feet, 10 inches! She placed 3rd in that event. Her championship jumps were in the Triple Jump (37 ft, 3 in) and the High Jump (5 ft, 3 in). Congratulations Chelsea for being a two event CIF Champion!
A special thank you to her coaches, Girls head coach Kelsey Widman and Girls jumping coach Adria Jackson for their time and dedication to our athletes!
Congratulations to the Mayfair High School Varsity Boys Wrestling Team for winning their third CIF championship. The efforts of the athletes and coaching staff led by head coach, Ibee Atalla, laid the foundation for this CIF title. It was truly a team effort. Included in this effort were the wrestlers, the coaches, and the parents who all stayed focused with the task at hand. Though the program was not perceived to be the “powerhouse” that it was in previous years, the team proved otherwise by battling through some close playoff matches to win the CIF Southern Section Boys Wrestling Division 5 Championship 37-33 over El Modena High School. A big applause to our student-athletes that overcame many obstacles this year to make it to the top of their sport.
