BUSD News - Superintendent’s Update March 27, 2021
Reopening Update
I am happy to share that through our collaboration with our teachers we have been able to confirm our return to in-person instruction for those families who elected to return for April 1, 2021. While it is one day before spring break, it will allow our students an opportunity to become familiar with the process.
The model for in-person instruction will consist of four minimum days with Wednesday continuing to be distance learning for all students. Principals will be communicating more schedule information next week as well as the site specific schedule.
Next week all students will have asynchronous days Monday, 3/29/21, Tuesday, 3/30/21, and Wednesday 3/31/21 to allow teachers time to prepare and be trained on all safety protocols.
Thursday, April 1, 2021, students who have chosen in-person instruction will attend with teachers in the classroom while students who will remain on distance learning will continue their instruction using Google Classroom or Seesaw through simultaneous teaching which will include lecture, modeling, group work and independent work.
Schools will be on spring break beginning Friday, April 2 - Sunday, April 11, 2021. School will resume both in-person and distance learning on Monday, April 12, 2021.
Elementary Schools
Will be on a minimum day schedule with students receiving distance learning at home while students are in-person in the classroom four (4) days per week. This will allow all students to continue with their current classroom teacher.
All students will continue to receive seven days worth of meals which will include breakfast and lunch. More information about the distribution of the meals will be provided.
Schools will follow their current minimum day schedule. School sites will communicate directly with parents on site specifics.
We will continue our expanded learning services for all students currently enrolled and will transition them to in-person instruction. The service hours will remain the same. If for some reason you do not want your child to continue with expanded learning services once in-person instruction starts, please let your site know. We will not provide expanded learning services during spring break, Friday, April 2-9, 2021.
At this time we are continuing to work with our partners for additional child care support and sites will communicate information once that support is available.
If you attend schools where the YMCA provides childcare services (Lindstrom, Foster, ILC), you may contact the YMCA directly to inquire about space for your child at 562-925-1292.
Secondary Schools
In order to meet the needs of our community, the secondary schools will change their shortened Mondays to Wednesday.
Schools will be on a minimum day block schedule with students receiving distance learning at home while students are in-person two (2) days per week. This will allow all students to continue with their current classroom teacher. Students will attend school in-person either Monday and Tuesday, or Thursday and Friday.
All students will continue to receive seven days worth of meals which will include breakfast and lunch. Teachers will still offer office hours four (4) days per week.
School sites will communicate directly with parents on site specific schedules and which cohort students attend.
The BUSD Team is excited that we are able to reopen schools for in-person learning. We thank our families for your patience. Your school site will reach out with additional information.
