• July 17, 2020 Update - Distance Learning in the Fall

    Dear BUSD Families

Many of you may be aware of Governor Newsom’s announcement which he made today at noon in which he gave recommendations and guidance for opening schools.   He made it clear that Districts are not able to open schools, until LA County is off the State monitoring list for 14 days.

As I shared earlier this week, we  are working with our Teacher’s Association leadership to determine the conditions for our return. The teachers were cautious to return and this guidance supports their viewpoint.

BUSD will be offering a rigorous online instructional program when we return for the fall semester. At this time we are still slated to begin on August 13th.  We are still working with the Association on the new guidance, and that date could change.

We are still working on offering tutoring and childcare services for those that need it from 6:00 am - 6:00 pm. Keep your fingers crossed!

The District will provide internet connectivity to households requesting it with a secure device allowing access to what is needed for instruction.

One comment made by the Governor is concerning.  He stated the PPE equipment has been sent to schools. Los Angeles County Office of Education, stated that they have not received an adequate amount of PPE from the State to distribute.  We are not the only district impacted!

I encourage you to use your power by writing letters to our Governor’s office to add your voice to ours that we need the PPE equipment that was promised for our schools that he said was issued! You did an incredible job on the drive-thru graduations and on sharing your opinions on athletics. The elected officials told us that they received numerous correspondence from BUSD!!!  Click here to contact Governor Newsom

As new information becomes available, we will continue to update you through a variety of forums including Blackboard calls and emails, District website and App, and District Facebook.  If you are not receiving Blackboard calls or emails, please make sure your information is correct in the Parent Portal if it is correct, please contact your site administrator for assistance. Emails can be found on each school's home page under the pictures.

Thanks to Bellflower Teachers Association President, Linda Adkins-Arndt for keeping in close contact with me and thanks to her team for assisting us in getting to a great place for kids.

Let's hope this is short lived!

On behalf of the Board of Education, Stay safe and healthy!

    Sincerely,

    Tracy McSparren

    Superintendent
