A Message from President, Laura Sanchez-Ramirez

Appointment of Tracy McSparren as Superintendent of Schools

    July 20, 2018

On behalf of the Bellflower Unified School District Board of Education, I am proud to announce that Tracy McSparren has been named Superintendent of Bellflower Unified School District. Ms. McSparren has been serving as the Interim Superintendent since the retirement of Brian Jacobs in January.

Many of you are familiar with Ms. McSparren through her dedication and service to the students of our community since 1996. Along with serving as the Interim Superintendent the last six months, Ms. McSparren continued to operate in her previous assignment as the Assistant Superintendent of Special Education and Support Services. Previously Ms. McSparren has served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Principal of Bellflower High School and as an Assistant Principal at Bellflower High School.

Ms. McSparren got her start with the District as a science teacher at Bellflower High School’s middle school. Along with her teaching assignment, she served as an Associated Student Body (ASB) Advisor, Cheer Advisor, served on the Site Council, was a member of PTSA and coordinated the Gear Up grant program.

Gear Up concentrated on getting students to begin the college journey in middle school and enter college upon high school graduation. The program emphasized activities to engage students in math and science and completing the A-G curriculum. The program also spawned the Parent Institute, which worked to create partnerships with parents to support our families in the journey to college.

Ms. McSparren is the first woman to have started as a teacher in the District and become the Superintendent. She is only the second woman to take on the role of Superintendent since the District’s establishment in 1956.

Please join the Board in welcoming Ms. McSparren!
