On Monday, November 26, 2018, Bellflower Unified School District celebrated their acquisition of the first two electric school buses from the Blue Bird Factory line in the state of California. The District worked in partnership with the South Coast Air Quality Management District, Blue Bird Corporation, and A-Z Bus Sales to acquire the buses. District personnel were joined in their celebrations by Bellflower USD School Board President Laura Sanchez-Ramirez, School Board Member Dr. Sue El Hessen, Mayor Pro Tem for Bellflower City Council Sonny Santa Inez, Bellfower USD Bond Committee Member Linda Morgan, Blue Bird Reprsentative Carol Dietrich, South Coast Air Quality Management representative Vasketn Yademian, Steven Nagy representing California assembly member Linda Sanchez's office, and John Larder and Brandon Bluhm from A-Z Bus Sales.
On Thursday, November 15, our Maintenance and Operations staff joined Somerset High School for their annual Turkey Day event. The event is a district-wide scholarship fundraiser and canned food drive. The students serve a traditional Turkey dinner, sell crafts, and collect non-perishable food items to donate to the community.
Thomas Jefferson elementary school recently hosted its 3rd annual Turkey Night. Jackrabbit students and famlies are invited to attend. When they arrive, Jefferson teachers serve them a turkey meal with all of the trimmings. Student performances were shared; and PTA raffled off turkeys, pies, and gift cards. A great time was had by all!
Stephen Foster welcomes Claudia Castillo as the new Stephen Foster principal. Ms. Castillo is eager to meet all of Foster’s students, staff, and families to begin building collaborative and meaningful relationships. Her career started at Lynwood Unified School District as an elementary teacher for 8 years and as an Instructional Improvement Leader for 2 years. She has been part of Bellflower Unified School District for 3 years and served as an assistant principal at Albert Baxter and Washington elementary schools, and the Intensive Learning Center. Her goal is to foster a positive and safe environment where all members of our school community feel welcomed and motivated to reach success. As your principal, she looks forward to leading by example to drive Foster in the direction to meet its goals in student achievement and creating exemplary citizens. “Building Futures” will be the motivation at Stephen Foster Elementary School.
