| Washington Elementary School is located in Bellflower, California. The facilities include 60 newly remodeled regular education classrooms, two updated computer labs, two reading labs, a science lab, a band room, a music room, a library and a mediation center. Washington is the home site for the elementary district ensemble. Washington serves approximately 1,000 students in grades 1-6. The attendance rate of the school was 96% during the prior school year. Student enrollment includes a variety of ethnic backgrounds, Asian 2.3 %, African-American 9.7 %, Hispanic 74.8 %, American Indian .1%, Pacific Islander 1%, Filipino 2.1%, and Caucasian 9.6 % We tap the energy and creativity of the professional staff, as well as parents and other community members, to prepare students for the work force and life long learning. Some activities include parent workshops held weekly to inform parents of grade level expectations and standards, Family nights, Reading is Fundamental book distributions, CBET adult English classes, supervised After School Programs, A school garden club, fieldtrips, GATE classes and ELD classes for all English Learners. The school has 42 regular education teachers, two special education teachers, one RSP teacher, and two reading specialists, a P.E Coach, an Assistant Principal and an Administrator. Other personnel serving the school include a psychologist, two health assistants, an adaptive P.E specialist, and a speech and language therapist. All staff meets the credential requirements of the State of California. Forty percent of the staff has advanced degrees. District schools also participate in a State Program Quality Review once every four years. WashingtonÕs most recent review was conducted in 2002. We are currently participating in the State Coordinated Compliance Review this current year. |
