| Ramona Elementary School is located in Bellflower. The facilities include 35 regular education classrooms, a multipurpose room (which also serves as the school cafeteria), a library, a computer lab, a psychologist's office, a Reading Specialist room, a Resource Specialist room, and a Speech and Language room. The district operates a before and after-school care class on the Ramona campus.
Ramona serves 926 students. The attendance rate at the school was 95.80 percent during the prior school year. Student enrollment includes a variety of ethnic backgrounds: Asian three percent, Pacific Islander two percent, Filipino four percent, Hispanic 65 percent, African-American 13 percent, Caucasian 13 percent, Multiple or other one percent. Ramona has 39 regular education teachers, three special education teachers, a reading specialist, an assistant principal, and a principal. Other personnel serving the school include a psychologist, nurse, two health assistants, a guidance intern, a case manager, and a speech and language therapist. One hundred percent of our teaching staff hold appropriate California teaching credentials.
Staff development activities are essential for maintaining a quality education program for students; therefore, the district provided more than 300 hours of staff development activities for teachers and classified staff. The emphasis of the staff development program in this school year was Assessment, Standards, and Literacy. One hundred percent of the teachers at our school took advantage of inside and outside staff development for their own professional growth.
District schools also participate in a State School Site Review (SSR) once every four years. Ramona's review was conducted in the 2002-2003 school year.
