Esther Lindstrom Elementary School first opened its doors to the students of Lakewood, California in 1957. This middle-class suburb of Southern California serves more than 600 families in single-family homes and apartments. Lindstrom is one of eleven elementary schools in the Bellflower Unified School District. It is located in the middle of a residential setting and contains all single-story buildings, an outside learning area and a large playground and grass area. There is a multimedia library, a computer lab with access to the internet, a multipurpose room (also serves as cafeteria), and an onsite before/after school childcare program (BASC).

Keeping the success of every student in mind is the primary focal point of the school. The Esther Lindstrom administration and staff continue to recognize that the only way to improve instruction, student achievement, and professionalism is to move forward together.

The mission of Esther Lindstrom School is to provide a quality education for all students through an exceptional learning environment. The staff promotes students to become responsible citizens and lifelong learners. This will be accomplished through:

- thinking and meaning-centered teaching practices that link students to their future;
- a positive, supportive, and encouraging environment;
- parents who are partners in the learning process;
- students, staff, and parents who demonstrate respect for one another's culture, beliefs, and values;
- students, staff, and parents who express pride in the school community and enthusiastically demonstrate school spirit.

Lindstrom serves 920 children from kindergarten through sixth grade. The demographics of Lindstrom School have changed over the past five years, with steadily increasing enrollment. The Lindstrom staff has successfully responded to the ever-changing needs of a student population that is becoming more ethnically, linguistically, and socioeconomically diverse. Transience is low. Daily attendance at Lindstrom is high, an average of 97.28% for the last year.

Lindstrom has forty regular education classes, two special day classes, and one special education class from Los Angeles County. Among our support staff, we have a resource specialist, reading specialist, and speech/language specialist. Lindstrom has fully implemented Class Size Reduction (CSR) in grades K-3. The school proudly has a full inclusion program with six special needs students spending 100% of their day within the regular classroom.

Esther Lindstrom has many school traditions. A school pledge, "Every Student is a Star," is recited daily at our traditional morning flag ceremony where all classes unite to show respect and patriotism for our country. The PTA is an integral part of the Lindstrom family. They host Book Fairs, Spring Concerts and Spring Carnival. The school also has long-term education-business partnerships with many local businesses, such as Pavilions, Carl's Jr., Skate Depot, Straw Hat Pizza, State Farm Insurance, and Sam's Club. These businesses provide the school with certificates, which are used in school student recognition programs. Fridays are designated as School Spirit Days. On this day, students and all staff members wear Lindstrom Lion shirts and sing the school song. The Breakfast Club and Effort Club programs honor outstanding students on a quarterly basis. Lindstrom offers the facility for use to the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Girl Scouts. AYSO and Little League also use our fields on a regular basis.

High expectations and challenging academic programs foster an environment where teachers excel and students achieve to their fullest potential. The vision for Lindstrom School is "to develop a full respect for diversity, a community of lifelong learners and leaders, a collegiality with high standards and low anxiety." The Esther Lindstrom family strives to provide a safe environment, foster positive attitudes, encourage professional growth, and challenge all students to excel.
