Shannon Slager currently serves as an intervention teacher at Ramona Elementary School for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade. Shannon is an expert in the district initiative of DII and uses the steps of lesson structure and sequence to plan her lessons. She provides appropriate support and scaffolds so that students can successfully transition to independent work. Shannon is a very reflective teacher and constantly strives for excellence in all that she does. Shannon is very committed to the district and working with teachers at both Ramona and the other elementary sites. This is evidenced by her service as a staff development presenter. She helped develop training designed to assist teachers in teaching the California ELA standards to a very high level of rigor. She not only shared strategies and activities designed to meet this goal, but she also immersed herself in research and the tenets of the California Framework to ensure that participants understood the “why” behind each strategy. This extensive knowledge makes her a much sought after colleague when teachers want to improve their instruction. She is the first person to step in when help is needed at the school no matter what the situation might be. Her enthusiasm is that of a first year teacher! This enthusiasm is contagious and not only for her colleagues, the students in her class also enjoy and benefit from it.
Eileen Jones has been a district employee since 1997 and has served in many different positions including instructional aide, secretary and currently is the secretary to the Director of Academic Accountability at the District Office. Her dedication for service is evident in her participation with the district and the community. She has served on the Citizen’s Task Force for over 18 years and is an active member on the Superintendent’s District Advisory Group. Mrs. Jones has been involved with Council PTA for many years and continues to be involved even after her children have graduated. She has served in numerous roles with the district’s PTA group, including Council President at least six times and coordinates Red Ribbon Day. Mrs. Jones also coordinates the district’s annual participation with Relay for Life. In her spare time, Mrs. Jones can be found leading the Knitting Club, creating handcrafts for the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, or Little League Baseball. She lives a life of service and support for Bellflower Unified School District.
