Albert Baxter Elementary School is named after the late Albert Nathaniel Baxter, a veteran school official with the Bellflower Unified School District. Albert Baxter currently serves 533 students. The attendance rate at the school is 97.67 percent. Student enrollment includes a variety of ethnic backgrounds: Hispanic 70.9 percent, African American 9.8 percent, and Caucasian 7.3 percent. Asian 4.3% percent, Filipino 3 percent, and Pacific Islander 0.6 percent
The school has 24 regular education teachers, one special education teacher, and two administrators. Other certificated personnel serving the school include a psychologist and a speech and language teacher. All certificated staff meet the credential requirements of the State of California. The majority of them hold advanced degrees, and all have pursued course work beyond their bachelor's degree. Support staff includes instructional assistants, a community service worker, a guidance intern and two health assistants.
Throughout the school year, teachers are involved in various staff development activities which increase the skills and knowledge needed by teachers to implement an effective instructional program. The staff development programs in our school have emphasized technology-based instruction and early literacy.
We work in partnership with parents and other community members to develop the social, emotional, academic, and physical well-being of all children. Education is a process that expands our students' minds. By using the fundamental skills of thinking, problem solving, communication, quantifying, and collaborating, they can analyze personal strengths and limitations to improve behaviors, capabilities, and academic achievements. We also provide opportunities for students to utilize technology for personal learning and to prepare them for their futures.
